Costly Accident: Sleepy Driver Causes 400 Cr Loss
A sleepy bus driver working for popular airline carrier Jet Airways dozed off while driving and rammed his shuttle bus into an Air India aircraft near its left wing at the Kolkata Airport at around 5:30 am this morning, causing extensive damage worth Rs 400 crores.
However, no casualties have been reported in the freaky accident since no passengers were present in the aircraft and the shuttle bus. Apparently, the driver said, "after a night shift, he had fallen asleep and deviated from his route." The flight was preparing to fly to Silchar before it was hit by the bus.
The driver would be arrested for negligence at work and a medical exam that was conducted showed that the driver was neither drunk not on drugs. An investigation into the incident has been ordered by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
